CVE-2025-32194
Executive Summary
CVE-2025-32194 is a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the LA-Studio Element Kit for Elementor WordPress plugin (slug: lastudio-element-kit). The vulnerability affects all versions up to and including 1.5.1. An authenticated attacker with contributor-level privileges or higher can inject arbitrary JavaScript into web pages generated by the plugin. When a site administrator or other user views the compromised page, the injected script executes in their browser, potentially leading to session hijacking, credential theft, or defacement.
This vulnerability is classified under the WordPress ecosystem and is not related to Apache or Nginx server misconfigurations. The plugin fails to properly sanitize user-supplied input before storing it in the database and later rendering it in the browser.

Supply Chain & Package Security
This vulnerability affects a WordPress plugin distributed via the official WordPress Plugin Directory. Users who installed the plugin from the directory are at risk. No supply chain compromise of the plugin’s source repository has been reported, but the lack of a patch increases the risk of exploitation via third-party or unofficial updates.
CVSS Breakdown & Threat Level
- CVSS Vector: CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:L
- Base Score: 6.5 (Medium)
- Attack Vector: Network
- Attack Complexity: Low
- Privileges Required: Low (Contributor-level WordPress user)
- User Interaction: Required (Victim must visit the compromised page)
- Scope: Changed (Impact may extend beyond the vulnerable component)
- Confidentiality Impact: Low
- Integrity Impact: Low
- Availability Impact: Low
Threat Level: Medium. Exploitation requires authenticated access but is straightforward once obtained. The stored XSS can be used to target site administrators, leading to full site compromise.
Deep Dive & Mechanics
The vulnerability resides in the LA-Studio Element Kit for Elementor plugin, which provides custom widgets and elements for the Elementor page builder. The plugin fails to properly neutralize user input during web page generation, specifically in one or more of its custom widgets that accept user-supplied data (e.g., text fields, URLs, or HTML attributes).
Attack Flow:
- An attacker with contributor-level access (or higher) creates or edits a page/post using the Elementor editor.
- The attacker inserts a vulnerable widget from the LA-Studio Element Kit (e.g., a heading, button, or image widget) and injects a malicious payload into a field that is not sanitized.
- The plugin stores the unsanitized payload in the WordPress database.
- When a site visitor (including an administrator) loads the page, the payload is rendered in the browser without proper escaping, executing the attacker’s JavaScript.
Root Cause: The plugin uses functions like echo $value or the_content() without applying WordPress’s built-in escaping functions such as esc_html(), esc_attr(), or wp_kses_post().
Vulnerable vs. Patched Code
Since no official patch is available, the following is a hypothetical comparison based on common XSS fixes.
Vulnerable Code (example from a widget):
<?php
// Vulnerable: Direct output without sanitization
echo '<div class="custom-widget">' . $instance['title'] . '</div>';
?>
Patched Code (recommended fix):
<?php
// Patched: Use esc_html() to escape output
echo '<div class="custom-widget">' . esc_html( $instance['title'] ) . '</div>';
?>
Key Difference: The patched version applies esc_html() to the user-supplied $instance['title'] before output, converting special characters like <, >, &, ", and ' into their HTML entities, preventing script injection.
Exploitation & Lab Setup
Red Team (Exploitation)
Prerequisites:
- A WordPress site with the LA-Studio Element Kit plugin version <= 1.5.1 installed and activated.
- A valid user account with at least Contributor role.
Exploitation Steps:
- Log in to the WordPress admin panel as a Contributor.
- Create a new page or post using the Elementor editor.
- Add a vulnerable widget (e.g., "Heading" or "Button" from LA-Studio Element Kit).
- In the widget’s text field, enter the following payload:
<script>alert('XSS')</script> - Save and publish the page.
- As an administrator (or any other user), visit the published page. The JavaScript alert will execute.
Advanced Payload (Session Hijacking):
<script>
fetch('/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php?action=your_custom_action&data='+document.cookie);
</script>
Blue Team (Detection & Hardening)
Detection:
- Monitor WordPress logs for unusual page/post edits by low-privilege users.
- Use a Web Application Firewall (WAF) to block common XSS patterns in POST requests.
- Scan the database for stored XSS payloads using a security plugin like Wordfence or Sucuri.
Hardening:
- Disable the LA-Studio Element Kit plugin until a patch is released.
- Restrict contributor-level users from using Elementor if not necessary.
- Implement Content Security Policy (CSP) headers to mitigate XSS impact.
Indicators of Compromise (IOCs)
- File:
/wp-content/plugins/lastudio-element-kit/(entire plugin directory) - Database: Rows in
wp_postsorwp_postmetacontaining<script>tags oronerror/onloadevent handlers. - Network: Outbound HTTP requests to attacker-controlled domains from the WordPress admin panel.
- Logs: WordPress debug log entries showing unexpected JavaScript execution.

Remediation & Mitigation
Immediate Actions:
- Disable the plugin until a patch is released by the vendor.
- Audit existing content for stored XSS payloads using a security scanner.
- Change all WordPress admin passwords if compromise is suspected.
Long-Term Fix:
- The vendor (LA-Studio) must release a patched version (>= 1.5.2) that properly sanitizes all user inputs using
esc_html(),esc_attr(), orwp_kses_post(). - Users should update to the latest version once available.
Workaround:
- Implement a Web Application Firewall (WAF) rule to block common XSS patterns in Elementor widget fields.
- Use a WordPress security plugin to monitor file changes and database integrity.
