CVE-2025-57605
Executive Summary
CVE-2025-57605 is a critical authorization bypass vulnerability in the AiKaan IoT Platform. The platform fails to enforce server-side authorization checks on department admin assignment APIs. An authenticated user can escalate their privileges by assigning themselves as an administrator of any department, leading to unauthorized access to sensitive IoT device management functions, data exfiltration, and potential lateral movement within the platform. No public exploit code or patch is currently available, but the vulnerability is trivially exploitable via crafted API requests.
This record — and 170,000+ others — are available via the ValtersIT API. One endpoint replaces five: NVD + GitHub CVE + CISA KEV + EPSS + Nuclei + Exploit-DB, unified.

Supply Chain & Package Security
This vulnerability is not related to NPM, PyPI, Go, or Ruby packages. It is a server-side authorization flaw in a proprietary IoT platform.
CVSS Breakdown & Threat Level
- Attack Vector (AV): Network (N) – Exploitable remotely.
- Attack Complexity (AC): Low (L) – No special conditions required.
- Privileges Required (PR): Low (L) – Attacker needs a valid low-privilege account.
- User Interaction (UI): None (N) – No user action needed.
- Scope (S): Unchanged (U) – The vulnerable component remains the same.
- Confidentiality (C): High (H) – Full access to department data.
- Integrity (I): High (H) – Ability to modify department configurations.
- Availability (A): High (H) – Potential to disrupt IoT device operations.
CVSS Score: 8.8 (High) – Unauthorized privilege escalation with full impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
Deep Dive & Mechanics
The vulnerability resides in the API endpoints responsible for assigning department admin roles. The platform uses a role-based access control (RBAC) model but fails to validate that the requesting user has the authority to modify admin assignments for a target department. Specifically, the API does not check if the authenticated user is a super-admin or has administrative rights over the department they are trying to modify.
Attack Flow:
- An attacker authenticates as a low-privilege user (e.g., a regular department member).
- The attacker sends a PUT/POST request to
/api/departments/{department_id}/adminswith their own user ID. - The server accepts the request without verifying that the attacker has the
manage_adminspermission for that department. - The attacker is now an admin of the target department, gaining full control over IoT devices, user management, and data within that department.
Root Cause: Missing server-side authorization check on the assignAdmin function. The code likely only checks if the user is authenticated, not if they are authorized.
Vulnerable vs. Patched Code
Vulnerable Code (Conceptual):
// Vulnerable: No authorization check
app.put('/api/departments/:deptId/admins', authenticate, (req, res) => {
const { userId } = req.body;
// Directly assigns admin without checking if req.user has rights
db.assignAdmin(req.params.deptId, userId);
res.status(200).send('Admin assigned');
});
Patched Code (Conceptual):
// Patched: Authorization check added
app.put('/api/departments/:deptId/admins', authenticate, authorize('manage_admins', req.params.deptId), (req, res) => {
const { userId } = req.body;
db.assignAdmin(req.params.deptId, userId);
res.status(200).send('Admin assigned');
});
The patched version uses an authorize middleware that checks if the authenticated user has the manage_admins permission for the specific department.
Exploitation & Lab Setup
Red Team
Prerequisites:
- Valid low-privilege credentials for the AiKaan IoT Platform.
- Network access to the platform's API endpoint.
Exploitation Steps:
- Obtain a session token by logging in as a low-privilege user.
- Identify a target department ID (e.g., via enumeration or from a list).
- Send a PUT request to assign yourself as admin:
curl -X PUT https://target-iot-platform.com/api/departments/123/admins \
-H "Authorization: Bearer <low_priv_token>" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"userId": "<your_user_id>"}'
- Verify escalation by accessing department admin functions.
No public exploit code is available.
Blue Team
Detection:
- Monitor API logs for unauthorized admin assignment attempts (e.g., PUT requests to
/api/departments/*/adminsfrom non-admin users). - Alert on any user who suddenly gains admin privileges across multiple departments.
Hunting:
- Query logs for
userIdchanges in department admin assignments where the requesting user is not a super-admin. - Look for anomalous API calls from low-privilege accounts to sensitive endpoints.
Indicators of Compromise (IOCs)
- Network IOCs:
- PUT/POST requests to
/api/departments/*/adminsfrom non-admin IPs. - Repeated 200 responses to unauthorized admin assignment attempts.
- PUT/POST requests to
- System IOCs:
- Unexpected addition of user IDs to department admin lists.
- Log entries showing
assignAdminfunction called by unauthorized users.
- Behavioral IOCs:
- Low-privilege users suddenly accessing department-wide IoT device management features.

Remediation & Mitigation
Immediate Actions:
- Disable the vulnerable API endpoint if possible, or restrict access to super-admins only via network ACLs.
- Implement a WAF rule to block PUT/POST requests to
/api/departments/*/adminsfrom non-admin IPs. - Audit all current department admin assignments to identify and revoke unauthorized privileges.
Long-Term Fix:
- Apply server-side authorization checks on all admin assignment APIs. Ensure the
manage_adminspermission is verified against the target department. - Conduct a full RBAC audit of the platform.
No official patch is available from the vendor.
