CVE-2026-103889
Executive Summary
CVE-2026-103889 is a critical unauthenticated Remote Code Execution (RCE) vulnerability in the "3D Product configurator for WooCommerce" WordPress plugin, affecting all versions up to and including 2.16.2. The flaw allows unauthenticated attackers to execute arbitrary code on the server by exploiting missing authentication and nonce checks combined with unsanitized input processing. With a CVSS score of 9.8, this vulnerability poses an immediate and severe risk to any WordPress site running the vulnerable plugin.

Technical Analysis
The vulnerability arises from a combination of security control failures in the plugin's wp_loaded handler. Specifically:
Missing Authentication and Nonce Checks: The
wp_loadedhandler, which processes incoming requests, contains an authentication and nonce verification block that is entirely commented out. This renders the endpoint accessible to unauthenticated users, as no validation is performed before processing thexpv_imagePOST parameter.Unsanitized Input: The
xpv_imagePOST parameter is accepted without any sanitization or validation. This parameter is then echoed unescaped into a Dompdf-rendered HTML template. Dompdf is a PHP library that converts HTML to PDF, but in this configuration, PHP execution is enabled within the rendered template.Remote Code Execution: Because the unsanitized input is embedded into a template with PHP execution enabled, an attacker can inject PHP code via the
xpv_imageparameter. When the template is processed by Dompdf, the injected PHP code is executed on the server.
The attack surface is broad: any URL on the WordPress site can be targeted with a single unauthenticated POST request, as the wp_loaded hook fires on every WordPress request. This makes the vulnerability trivial to exploit and difficult to mitigate without patching or disabling the plugin.
Exploitation Scenarios
The attack chain for CVE-2026-103889 is straightforward due to the lack of authentication and input validation. Based on the NVD description, the exploitation steps are as follows:
Reconnaissance/Target Identification: An attacker identifies a WordPress site using the "3D Product configurator for WooCommerce" plugin. This can be done via Shodan dorks or by scanning for known plugin assets. No authentication is required to reach the vulnerable endpoint.
Triggering the Flaw: The attacker sends a single unauthenticated POST request to any URL on the site. The request includes the
xpv_imageparameter containing malicious PHP code. Because the authentication and nonce checks are commented out, the request is processed.Payload Execution: The
xpv_imageparameter is echoed unescaped into a Dompdf-rendered HTML template with PHP execution enabled. The injected PHP code is executed by the server, granting the attacker arbitrary code execution.Post-Exploitation Impact: With code execution, the attacker can fully compromise the WordPress site. This includes installing backdoors, exfiltrating sensitive data (e.g., user credentials, customer information), pivoting to other systems on the network, or using the server for further attacks (e.g., hosting malware, launching DDoS attacks).
No public PoC or exploit code is available, and the attack chain is inferred from the vulnerability class and the NVD description.
Impact Assessment
The impact of CVE-2026-103889 is critical. The CVSS score of 9.8 reflects the following subscores:
- Confidentiality Impact (High): Attackers can access all data on the server, including WordPress configuration files, database credentials, and customer data.
- Integrity Impact (High): Attackers can modify any data, inject malicious content, or alter site functionality.
- Availability Impact (High): Attackers can disrupt site operations, delete data, or render the site unusable.
The blast radius is significant: any WordPress site with the vulnerable plugin installed is at risk. Given the plugin's use in e-commerce (WooCommerce), compromised sites could lead to theft of payment information, customer data breaches, and reputational damage. Additionally, the vulnerability is unpatched, and no workarounds are available, leaving site administrators with limited options.

Mitigation & Patch Guidance
Patch confidence: 0/4 (UNPATCHED — no patch evidence from any tracked source).
Immediate Mitigations:
- Disable the "3D Product configurator for WooCommerce" plugin until a patch is available.
- If the plugin cannot be disabled, implement a Web Application Firewall (WAF) rule to block POST requests containing the
xpv_imageparameter with suspicious patterns (e.g., PHP tags, eval, system, exec). - Monitor web server logs for exploitation attempts (e.g., POST requests with
xpv_image).
Patch/Upgrade Steps:
- No official patch is available. Monitor the plugin vendor's website and the WordPress plugin repository for updates.
- Once a patch is released, immediately upgrade to the latest version.
Long-Term Hardening:
- Conduct a security review of all plugins, focusing on authentication, input validation, and output escaping.
- Implement the principle of least privilege for WordPress users and database accounts.
- Deploy a WAF with virtual patching capabilities to protect against unpatched vulnerabilities.
- Regularly scan for vulnerabilities using tools like WPScan and monitor threat intelligence feeds.
