Executive Summary

CVE-2026-14902 is an open redirect vulnerability in Ivanti Xtraction, a business intelligence and reporting platform. An unauthenticated, remote attacker can exploit this flaw to redirect users from a legitimate Ivanti Xtraction URL to an arbitrary external website. This is a classic CWE-601: URL Redirection to Untrusted Site ('Open Redirect') issue.

The vulnerability exists in versions prior to 2026.2.1. While the CVSS score is relatively low (4.0), the real-world risk is amplified by its use in phishing campaigns. An attacker can craft a link that appears to point to a trusted Ivanti Xtraction instance, but upon clicking, the user is silently redirected to a malicious site designed to steal credentials or deliver malware. The EPSS score is 0.0%, indicating no active exploitation in the wild at the time of enrichment, but this does not negate the need for immediate patching.

Supply Chain & Package Security

This vulnerability is not in an open-source package (NPM, PyPI, Go, Ruby) but in a proprietary enterprise application. The supply chain risk is limited to the software vendor's distribution channels. Organizations should verify the integrity of the Ivanti Xtraction installer by checking its digital signature and hash against official Ivanti documentation.

CVSS Breakdown & Threat Level

  • Attack Vector (AV): Network (N) - The vulnerability is exploitable remotely.
  • Attack Complexity (AC): Low (L) - No special conditions are required.
  • Privileges Required (PR): None (N) - No authentication is needed.
  • User Interaction (UI): Required (R) - The victim must click a crafted link.
  • Scope (S): Unchanged (U) - The redirect does not change the security scope.
  • Confidentiality (C): None (N) - No direct data exposure.
  • Integrity (I): Low (L) - The redirect can lead to a malicious site that may alter user data.
  • Availability (A): None (N) - No impact on system availability.

Threat Level: Medium. While the technical impact is low, the social engineering potential is high, making it a valuable tool for phishing and credential harvesting.

Deep Dive & Mechanics

The open redirect vulnerability likely resides in a URL parameter used for post-login redirects or for handling external links within the Ivanti Xtraction interface. The application fails to validate the destination URL, allowing an attacker to supply a redirect_uri, return_url, or similar parameter pointing to an attacker-controlled domain.

Example vulnerable request:

https://victim-ivanti-xtraction.com/login?redirect_uri=https://evil.com/phish

When a user clicks this link, the Ivanti Xtraction server processes the request and issues an HTTP 302 redirect to https://evil.com/phish. The user's browser then navigates to the malicious site, which may be a perfect replica of the Ivanti login page.

Vulnerable vs. Patched Code

The following is a conceptual representation of the vulnerable and patched code logic.

Vulnerable Code (Python/Flask example):

@app.route('/login')
def login():
    redirect_url = request.args.get('redirect_uri')
    # No validation of redirect_url
    return redirect(redirect_url)

Patched Code:

from urllib.parse import urlparse

ALLOWED_DOMAINS = ['ivanti-xtraction.com', '*.ivanti-xtraction.com']

@app.route('/login')
def login():
    redirect_url = request.args.get('redirect_uri')
    if redirect_url:
        parsed = urlparse(redirect_url)
        if not any(parsed.netloc.endswith(domain) for domain in ALLOWED_DOMAINS):
            return abort(400, description="Invalid redirect target")
    return redirect(redirect_url or '/')

The patched version implements a whitelist of allowed domains and validates the redirect URL against it. Any URL not matching the whitelist is rejected.

Exploitation & Lab Setup

Red Team (Offensive)

Lab Setup:

  1. Target: A vulnerable Ivanti Xtraction instance (version < 2026.2.1). This can be a local VM or a cloud instance.
  2. Attacker: A machine with a web server (e.g., Python's http.server) to simulate a phishing page.
  3. Tooling: A web browser or curl.

Exploitation Steps:

  1. Identify the vulnerable parameter. Common names include redirect, return_url, next, url, target.
  2. Craft a malicious URL:
    https://victim-ivanti-xtraction.com/login?redirect=https://attacker.com/phish

  3. Send this link to the victim via email, social media, or other channels.
  4. When the victim clicks, they are redirected to https://attacker.com/phish.

Proof of Concept (PoC) using curl:

curl -v "https://victim-ivanti-xtraction.com/login?redirect=https://evil.com"

The response should include a Location: https://evil.com header.

Blue Team (Defensive)

Detection:

  1. Monitor web server logs for requests containing suspicious redirect parameters pointing to external domains.
  2. Use the Sigma and Suricata rules provided in the Detection Engineering section.
  3. Implement a web application firewall (WAF) rule to block requests with redirect parameters that do not match a whitelist of allowed domains.

Hunting:

  1. Search proxy logs for 302 responses from the Ivanti Xtraction server.
  2. Correlate these with the Referer header to identify potential phishing campaigns.

Indicators of Compromise (IOCs)

  • URL Pattern: */login?redirect=* or */login?return_url=* where the value is an external domain.
  • HTTP Response: HTTP/1.1 302 Found with a Location header pointing to an external, untrusted domain.
  • Network Traffic: Outbound connections from the Ivanti Xtraction server to unknown external IPs/domains immediately following a login request.

Remediation & Mitigation

  1. Immediate Action: Upgrade Ivanti Xtraction to version 2026.2.1 or later. This is the only complete fix.
  2. Compensating Controls (if patching is delayed):
    • Implement a WAF rule to block requests with redirect parameters containing external URLs.
    • Configure the Ivanti Xtraction server to only allow redirects to internal domains.
    • Educate users about phishing attacks and the risks of clicking on links in unsolicited emails.
  3. Long-Term:
    • Conduct a code review of all redirect functionality in the application.
    • Implement a strict whitelist of allowed redirect destinations.
    • Use a centralized authentication gateway that handles all redirects securely.
