CVE-2026-56830
Executive Summary
CVE-2026-56830 is a missing authorization vulnerability (CWE-862) in Shopper, an open-source headless e-commerce admin panel. Versions prior to 2.9.2 contain a Livewire component, store() in packages/admin/src/Livewire/Components/Products/Form/Media.php, that lacks the edit_products authorization check applied to sibling sub-forms. Any authenticated staff account holding only the lower-privileged browse_products permission can invoke the Livewire store action and overwrite a product's thumbnail and gallery images, violating the integrity of product media without holding edit rights.

Technical Analysis
Shopper is a Laravel/Livewire-based admin panel for headless e-commerce. Access control in the admin application is enforced via discrete permissions, of which browse_products and edit_products are relevant here. The vulnerability class is missing authorization check on an object-level action — CWE-862 — arising from a prior "product sub-form hardening" change that added the edit_products check to sibling sub-forms but left the media sub-form's store() method unguarded.
store() lives in packages/admin/src/Livewire/Components/Products/Form/Media.php. When a product edit page is loaded, the Media Livewire component is initialized and its product binding is locked server-side (per the NVD description). This lock prevents the attacker from re-pointing the update to an arbitrary product via client-side ID substitution, so exploitation is confined to products whose edit pages the attacker has loaded (directly or via a shared session/state). Within that scope, the absence of the edit_products check means the mere presence of browse_products is sufficient to reach the media store logic and replace the thumbnail and gallery images.
Key characteristics:
- Attack vector is network (AV:N) and requires prior authentication (PR:L) as a staff user.
- No user interaction is required beyond the attacker's own actions (UI:N).
- Impact is integrity-only per the CVSS vector (I:H); there is no confidentiality or availability subscore in the vector.
- Base score 6.5 (Medium). EPSS 0.00362, ~29.8th percentile — low observed exploitation likelihood. No CISA KEV listing, no public PoC, no Nuclei template, and no exploit code currently available.
Because the description does not disclose the exact HTTP request shape, Livewire payload structure, or validation behavior in store(), no further code-level specifics are asserted here. The core defect is definitively an authorization gap on a state-changing action, not a memory-safety, injection, or cryptographic flaw.
Exploitation Scenarios
No public PoC is available; the attack chain below is inferred from the vulnerability class (missing authorization / CWE-862) and the NVD description.
Reconnaissance and access acquisition. The attacker needs a valid authenticated staff account. This is typically the lowest-friction prerequisite in an e-commerce admin context, obtained through employee turnover, credential reuse, phishing of a staff member, or purchase of leaked credentials. The account only needs
browse_products; it does not neededit_products. The attacker identifies the Shopper admin panel and confirms product management is reachable.Target identification. Using the
browse_productspermission, the attacker enumerates products and identifies one whose edit page renders the Media sub-form — i.e., a product they can load in the admin UI. Because the product binding is locked and cannot be redirected through client-side ID substitution, the set of exploitable targets is limited to products whose edit pages were initialized.Triggering the flaw class. With the product edit page loaded, the attacker invokes the Livewire
storeaction exposed by the Media component. The sibling sub-forms would reject this call absentedit_products; the Mediastore()method does not perform that check, so the request is processed. The attacker supplies their own image content (thumbnail and/or gallery), and the server writes it against the locked product binding.Post-exploitation impact. The attacker can replace the thumbnail and gallery images for the loaded product. Depending on the application, this can be used for brand damage, defacement of storefront listings, injection of misleading or malicious imagery shown to customers, or as a staging step for social engineering. Per the CVSS vector, the direct impact is integrity-only and scoped (S:U) to the affected product records; there is no described path to code execution, data exfiltration, or privilege escalation beyond the media-write primitive. Because the action is state-changing, no user interaction from other users is needed for the write itself to occur, though the tampered imagery would be displayed to downstream users.
Impact Assessment
Business impact centers on data integrity of product media serving a public storefront. An attacker holding only browse_products — a permission intended for read-only access — can perform unauthorized writes. CVSS 3.1 base score is 6.5: AV:N, AC:L, PR:L, UI:N, S:U, C:N, I:H, A:N. The absence of confidentiality and availability components means the primary risk is tampering and trust erosion: customers view manipulated imagery, brand credibility suffers, and downstream systems consuming Shopper's media (storefront, marketing feeds, marketplace integrations) may propagate the altered content.
Blast radius is bounded by two described constraints: the server-side product binding is locked, preventing redirection to arbitrary products, and exploitation is limited to products whose edit pages were loaded. This reduces mass-defacement risk but does not eliminate it — an attacker with sustained access can repeatedly load product pages and tamper with many items over time. Organizations running Shopper < 2.9.2 with multiple staff roles, contractors, or third-party integrators holding browse_products have the largest exposure. EPSS is low (0.00362, ~29.8th percentile) and there is no KEV listing or known in-the-wild exploitation, so near-term mass exploitation is unlikely, but the low-complexity, low-privilege nature of the flaw makes internal or targeted abuse plausible.

Mitigation & Patch Guidance
Patch confidence is 2/4 (CLAIMED — a single source (OSV) asserts the patch; it has not been independently confirmed). Treat remediation as provisional until corroborated.
- Immediate mitigations (apply before or absent patching)
- Upgrade Shopper to version 2.9.2, the version the OSV advisory states fixes the issue.
- Until the upgrade is validated, restrict
browse_productsgrants to the minimum necessary staff. Because the flaw is reachable with browse-only rights, entitlement review is the highest-leverage interim control. - In environments fronted by a WAF or reverse proxy, block or alert on
POST /livewire/updaterequests whose bodies referenceProducts\\Form\\Mediacombined withstore, thumbnail, orgalleryfrom users lackingedit_products(require authenticated session inspection). - Monitor and alert on unexpected changes to product thumbnail/gallery images, particularly bursts of media changes from a single account.
- Patch / upgrade steps
- Confirm your current Shopper version; if below 2.9.2, schedule the upgrade through your normal change process.
- Follow Shopper's release notes and apply the 2.9.2 media-form hardening change, which the description states adds the missing
edit_productsauthorization check tostore(). - Because the patch is single-sourced and unverified, validate post-upgrade that the
store()method now enforcesedit_productsin accordance with its sibling sub-forms, and test that abrowse_products-only account is denied.
- Long-term hardening
- Standardize authorization checks across all Livewire sub-form actions using a centralized policy/authorization middleware so individual components cannot silently omit permission enforcement.
- Adopt object-level authorization review (IDOR/BOLA) and CWE-862 patterns into secure-code review and CI checks for the admin panel.
- Apply least-privilege role design: separate identity-level permissions (
browse_products) from mutation rights (edit_products) and audit role assignments regularly. - Enable tamper-evident logging for product media changes, with alerting on outlier rates per user.
