CVE-2026-73381
Executive Summary
CVE-2026-73381 is a critical-severity vulnerability (CVSS 9.1) affecting the WordPress plugin "Popup by Supsystic," versions 1.13.0 and earlier. The NVD describes the flaw as "Unauthenticated Broken Authentication," meaning a remote attacker with no credentials can bypass the plugin's authentication mechanisms. Because the plugin is exposed on public-facing WordPress deployments, the practical impact is high integrity and availability damage — unauthorized modification of plugin-managed content and disruption of site functionality. No patch is currently available, no public exploit code has been released, and the vulnerability is not listed in CISA KEV as of this writing.
This record — and 170,000+ others — are available via the ValtersIT API. One endpoint replaces five: NVD + GitHub CVE + CISA KEV + EPSS + Nuclei + Exploit-DB, unified.

Technical Analysis
The NVD description is minimal: "Unauthenticated Broken Authentication in Popup by Supsystic <= 1.13.0 versions." The assigned weakness class is CWE-288, "Authentication Bypass Using an Alternate Path." This classification indicates that the plugin exposes a code path that performs privileged operations without first validating that the requesting user is authenticated and authorized. Rather than a weak password or flawed credential check, CWE-288 implies that an alternate execution route exists — for example, a request handler that skips a login gate, or an authentication decision that can be influenced by unauthenticated attacker-controlled input.
Because the description provides no function names, URL endpoints, or parameter names, the exact mechanism cannot be stated with certainty. Insufficient technical detail is available in the public record to identify the specific vulnerable routine. At the vulnerability-class level, however, the mechanics are well understood: WordPress plugins commonly register AJAX and administrative actions, and broken authentication occurs when those actions are reachable without a valid session. In this case, the flaw is reachable over the network (AV:N) with low attack complexity (AC:L) and no privileges or user interaction required (PR:N, UI:N). The CVSS vector also reveals the impact profile: no confidentiality loss (C:N), but high integrity (I:H) and high availability (A:H) impact. Attackers can therefore alter plugin data, inject or replace stored popup content, or disrupt plugin operations, but the flaw is not suited to direct data exfiltration.
The attack surface is any WordPress site running Popup by Supsystic <= 1.13.0. Until a fixed version is released, every such deployment is a candidate target. The plugin's purpose — rendering dynamic, client-side popups — makes it particularly attractive to attackers, as modified popup content can be leveraged for malvertising, phishing, or credential harvesting without modifying the WordPress core.
Exploitation Scenarios
No public proof-of-concept, Nuclei template, or exploit code exists for CVE-2026-73381. The attack chain below is inferred strictly from the vulnerability class (CWE-288) and the NVD description, not from observed exploits.
Reconnaissance / target identification. An attacker scans for WordPress sites that have the Popup by Supsystic plugin installed and active. Identification is typically performed by fingerprinting plugin assets, page source markers, or response headers associated with the plugin name. Shodan-style queries such as
http.title:"Popup by Supsystic"orhttp.html:"supsystic"can surface candidate hosts. Version enumeration is possible via plugin-related resource strings to confirm the target is <= 1.13.0.Triggering the flaw. The attacker sends crafted HTTP requests to the plugin's public-facing functionality without establishing an authenticated session. Because the vulnerability is an authentication-bypass flaw, no valid WordPress account, session cookie, or nonce is required. The requests are designed to reach a privileged code path that the plugin fails to protect — the "alternate path" described by CWE-288. The exact trigger is unknown from public data; exploitation may involve directly invoking plugin actions that were intended to be administrator-only.
Payload / execution method. At the vulnerability-class level, the attacker manipulates the request to influence the plugin's authorization decision — for example, by supplying input that causes the authentication check to be skipped, or by calling a handler that never performs the check in the first place. Once the request is processed as authorized, the attacker can supply the same parameters a legitimate administrator would use: updating plugin configuration, altering stored popup definitions, or triggering destructive operations such as deletion of settings and popup records. Since no public PoC is available, specific payload syntax cannot be provided.
Post-exploitation impact. Successful exploitation yields high integrity and availability impact. An attacker can replace popup content with malicious JavaScript or HTML, turning the site into a vector for drive-by downloads, phishing, or defacement. Alternatively, deleting plugin data or disabling plugin functionality degrades or removes the site's popup service, causing availability loss. Because the scope is unchanged (S:U), the attacker cannot directly pivot to other hosted components purely through this vulnerability; however, corrupted content can still affect the site's visitors and reputation. No evidence currently links CVE-2026-73381 to a known threat-actor campaign.
Impact Assessment
The NVD CVSS 3.1 base score is 9.1 (Critical). The full vector is CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:H. Key subscores: the vulnerability is exploitable by an unauthenticated remote attacker with no user interaction and low complexity, which places it at the top of the remote-exploitability range. The confidentiality score is None, ruling out direct data theft; the integrity score is High, indicating full or substantial compromise of plugin data integrity; the availability score is High, indicating the potential for complete plugin or content availability loss.
Business impact includes website defacement, distribution of malicious content via popups, SEO poisoning, erosion of customer trust, and operational downtime. Any WordPress environment — including marketing sites, e-commerce stores, and content portals — running Popup by Supsystic <= 1.13.0 is in scope. The blast radius is broad because the plugin is network-exposed by design on every page where popups are configured. The absence of a vendor patch (patch confidence 0/4) and the lack of CISA KEV listing mean security teams must treat this as an unpatched, potentially exploitable condition and apply compensating controls immediately.
Detection Guidance
The rules below are heuristics built on the only available fingerprint data in the NVD description (the product name "Popup by Supsystic" and the vendor string "supsystic"). Because no public exploit signature or endpoint is documented, these detections should be tuned to local access-log schemas and validated against baseline traffic. They are designed to flag unauthenticated requests that reference the plugin, which are anomalous for a normally functioning WordPress site.

Mitigation & Patch Guidance
Patch confidence is 0/4 — the vendor has not released a fix, no patch sources exist, and no fixed version has been verified. Treat all deployments of Popup by Supsystic <= 1.13.0 as exposed.
Immediate mitigations. Deactivate and remove the Popup by Supsystic plugin from production WordPress sites until a patched release is confirmed. If deactivation is not immediately possible, place the plugin's public-facing functionality behind a Web Application Firewall (WAF) rule that blocks unauthenticated requests referencing "supsystic." Restrict administrative access with additional layers (IP allowlists, VPN) and audit all existing popup content for unauthorized modifications.
Patch / upgrade steps. Monitor the vendor's advisory channels and the WordPress plugin repository for a release newer than 1.13.0. There is no vendor fix to apply at this time; do not implement unofficial patches from third parties. Before any future upgrade, take full database and file backups to enable rollback.
Long-term hardening. Enforce a disciplined plugin-update cadence for the entire WordPress estate. Remove unused plugins to reduce attack surface. Implement least-privilege access control for WordPress administration. Enable logging of web-server access and administrative actions, and feed those logs into the SIEM and detection tooling described above. Regularly review CISA KEV, vendor advisories, and threat-intel feeds for updates on CVE-2026-73381 exploitation activity.
