Automated System Daemon Resource Limits and Cgroup v2 Adjuster
This low-level system script monitors active process resource consumption and applies cgroups v2 resource limits to restrict runaway background processes. Internally, it reads process telemetry from the /proc file system and psutil, dynamically writing updated resource cap values to /sys/fs/cgroup system pseudo-files to restrict CPU bandwidth and maximum physical memory allocations.
Deploying this automation script on bare-metal servers or multi-tenant virtual instances prevents unconstrained tasks from inducing system instability or exhausting core host resources. It acts as an active resource governor that prevents kernel Out-Of-Memory (OOM) killer terminations of critical system daemons during unexpected workload spikes.
Modifying cgroups pseudo-files requires root user privileges or direct CAP_SYS_RESOURCE capability grants, demanding input validation to prevent path traversal risks when constructing target paths. Assigning memory caps lower than a process's active Resident Set Size (RSS) will trigger immediate page reclamation or force process termination.
