Environment-Isolated Node.js Application Hosting

TARGET_ENV: Ubuntu 22.04, Debian 12, RHEL 9
[ TAGS: nginx, snippet, nginx-unit, nodejs, environment-variables, app-server ]

This configuration establishes a native Node.js application hosting environment directly managed by Nginx Unit. Unit loads the embedded unit-http module into Node.js runtime instances, managing target execution environments, application working directories, and app-specific environment variables without reliance on external Node process managers like PM2.

This setup is standard for multi-tenant Node.js deployments where multiple microservices share host infrastructure but require isolated environment settings, distinct database connection strings, or specialized node module search paths.

By executing Node.js applications directly within Unit's process lifecycle engine, memory footprint and process monitoring are unified under a single daemon. Developers must ensure the target app uses Unit's http module compatibility layer rather than raw native HTTP server listen calls.
