Real-Time Operational Status Querying for Monitoring Integration
This command executes an HTTP GET request against Unit's internal status control socket to retrieve granular operational metrics. Unit returns a JSON payload containing active connections, request counts, process pool states, static file transfer metrics, and thread memory usage generated by its low-overhead lockless metrics engine.
This endpoint serves as the primary data source for continuous observability pipelines. Monitoring agents, such as the Prometheus Nginx Unit Exporter, periodically query this socket to populate Grafana dashboards and calculate request rate, error rate, and application process saturation metrics.
Querying the control socket introduces microsecond-level overhead and is completely non-blocking to active traffic processing. However, exposing this raw status payload to unauthenticated endpoints must be avoided, as internal process counts and service definitions could be used for reconnaissance by malicious actors.
> System.Execute()
curl --unix-socket /var/run/control.unit.sock http://localhost/status | jq '.'
